Josh McCausland is a multiple award-winning filmmaker and composer based in Brooklyn, New York.

Meet Josh McCausland, a dynamic force in the world of film and music, currently making waves from his base in Brooklyn, New York.

Josh's journey began in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he graduated from Monroe High School in 2011. Eager to pursue his passion for the arts, he made his way down to Nashville, Tennessee, where he studied fine arts and filmmaking on a soccer scholarship at Cumberland University.

In 2014, fueled by his creative drive, Josh founded iQ flicks, his own production company, after gaining valuable experience at Sony Tree Studios on Music Row. Despite the demands of managing his own business, Josh remained committed to his education and athletics, successfully completing his undergraduate degree in 2015.

Transitioning to Chattanooga in 2016, Josh immersed himself in the marketing world at The Vincit Group while continuing to pursue his artistic endeavors. His personal projects, "Chaos Theory" and "Anamnesis," garnered widespread acclaim at film festivals nationwide, with "Anamnesis" earning numerous awards and nominations.

In 2018, Josh expanded his creative repertoire by venturing into music production, captivating audiences globally with his mesmerizing piano solos.

A new chapter unfolded in 2019 when Josh moved to Chicago, where he not only found professional success at Relativity but also discovered love with his now-wife, Yuri Kim.

At Relativity, Josh manages the photo and video brand, contributing to the company's international brand presence.

Today, Josh calls New York City home, where he continues to push the boundaries of creativity, producing music, films, and written works while maintaining his role at Relativity. With an unwavering passion for his craft, Josh McCausland continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of art and entertainment.

The Man, The Myth, The (Mildly Distracting) Legend

iQ flicks crawled out of the Nashville Sony scene in 2014, mostly because Josh McCausland needed a brand name to hide behind while he hyper-fixated on approximately five hundred hobbies at once. Fast forward to now: he’s living in Brooklyn with his wife, and honestly? They are annoyingly cute. It’s the kind of wholesome content that makes you want to delete your apps, but I digress.

Technically, iQ flicks is a "creative studio" specializing in short films, commercials, and music videos. "Music videos are a challenge, a concise story, a respect thing," Josh told me with the kind of intensity usually reserved for bomb disposal units.

While Josh pivoted into a thirty-minute monologue regarding the "unmatched soul" of black-and-white cinema, I did what any professional journalist does: I stopped listening and opened Instagram.

Scrolling through @joshatiqflicks, I found a grid of curated aesthetics and a following large enough to be respectable but small enough that he still "cares about the art." I interrupted his tangent to ask about his photography—specifically the landscapes. "Oh yeah, waterfalls are great," he said, his eyes twinkling for a split second before he immediately pivoted back to the lighting ratios of the 1940s.

I tried to steer the ship back to reality, but we hit a snag when he started explaining the deeper sociopolitical implications of Tolkien’s mythology. I cut him off to ask about the music.

“I played trumpet, then my dad showed me Stevie Ray Vaughan and I realized I wanted to do that,” he said. “I played ‘in the dark’ for years, then started dropping tracks in 2018.”

I pointed out that he has millions of streams across platforms—actual, legitimate global reach. He shrugged. “Dumb luck, I guess,” he replied, with the audacity of a man who definitely knows what he’s doing but refuses to admit it. Then, naturally, he went back to talking about Elves.

As we wrapped up, I looked at the chaotic spread of his career: film, photography, graphic design, sketching, painting, and music. I asked why he puts it all under the iQ flicks banner instead of just using his own name.

"iQ flicks is a reflection of me," he said, finally landing the plane. "I like to blur the lines and let the work speak for itself."

Live long and prosper. If you have questions, hit up his website. If you want to talk about Middle-earth or the "vibe" of Brooklyn, clear your schedule for at least three hours.
